Raising Boys

The story of Dylan and Lennon and the mom who loves them

Worst kind of fiend March 14, 2007

Fed up with always on the receiving end of a rumormonger’s sharp tongue, I’ve decided to fight back.

No, I’m not fighting fire with fire by spreading rumors about this person, too. There are limits to how low I would stoop. *Smile*

Actually, what I planned to do is this: inform everyone what this person (I’m going to call this person RM for rumormonger) has said about them and write about what I’ve accomplished in this blog.

I’ve actually confronted RM about what she said a few days ago when the object of her made-up story was also there. Since that embarrassed her, I thought she’d stop being such a wretch but the incident only emboldened her.

Now, this rumormonger is spreading another story to make it appear that she was not at fault.

I’ve wondered for the longest time why this person is like this. Is it some form of escape from this person’s crappy life? It would appear so, from this explanation in ivillage.com. Rumormongering is this person’s way of taking out her negativity toward something and her way of regaining control over people or her environment.

Crazy over Grey’s Anatomy February 12, 2007

Filed under: TV shows — Administrator @ 8:48 pm

I’m so unbelievably hooked on this show that I have taken to scouring the net for videos of new episodes that I can download. The airing of Grey’s Anatomy in our local cable is so delayed it is still in its second season.

In the US, the first of three episodes of the third season ender already aired on February 8. I don’t know how the third season finale will play out but the first episode of the season ender had Meredith Grey falling from the pier into the water and with nobody seeing her fall except a little girl.

I used to watch episodes in Peekvid.com but it’s now inaccessible so I’ve transferred to Greys-media.com. I was also able to watch two or three episodes in the Daily Motion site.

Greys-media.com has all the episodes of the three seasons but the downside is you have to download a single episode clip by clip and watch it in the same manner.

That math contest again

Filed under: Children, Education, Family — Administrator @ 1:29 pm

My 8-year-old son Dylan hates Math contests or he hates the intense reviews that accompany them and complains at how he has the bad luck of again being chosen to represent the second grade in the competition.

The dislike probably stems from that time in first grade when he was among three pupils picked as contestants for the Math Teachers Association of the Philippines (MTAP) contest and had to cram for the elimination exams.

They reviewed like crazy for two days–from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., it was enough to make a 7-year-old cry. One of the contestants, not my son, did cry, probably because he looked out the window while solving around a hundred review problems and saw that it was getting very dark.

Lennon’s transformation February 7, 2007

Filed under: Children, Parenting — Administrator @ 12:31 am

I’m really getting the hang of raising my young son and what better way to start writing again in this blog than with an update on our improving relationship.

Lennon, 4, has shed off his tantrum ways, and turned into this amiable and likable kid who seeks to please me and his dad and by extension his brother. The transformation is such a complete turnaround, it seems to defy explanation.

It was not even four months ago when he’d cry, scream, and kick, pinch, hit anyone he could lay his hands on just to get his way.

Between now and then, my son has turned into this friendly kid who says hello to and smiles at everyone in the neighborhood.

Some fun in the sun April 17, 2006

One hot, lazy Saturday, we made our way to the beach for some fun and sun, and boy, did we get both in abundance. My sons couldn’t wait to jump into the sea when we arrived and it was not even 8 a.m. yet.

No amount of remonstration could get them to break their communion with the sea and when they finally stopped, some six hours later, no SPF lotion–even at a high of 50 and applied at least four times–could stop Lennon’s sunburn and no amount of rest alleviated Dylan’s dizziness and nausea. Serves them both right.

School closing ceremonies April 2, 2006

Filed under: Children, Education — engkanta @ 12:26 pm

The awarding ceremony for the elementary undergraduates of the Science and Technology Education Center (STEC), held yesterday at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base Ampitheater in Lapu-Lapu City, was delayed for over an hour but nobody was complaining. Least of all me.

My son Dylan received four medals during the awarding: three gold medals for finishing first grade on top of his class, a certificate of recognition for being High in Mathematical Logical Intelligence, and a silver medal for placing second in a math contest that pitted contestants from some 20 schools in Lapu-Lapu City.

Below are the pictures my husband and I took of the event. I’ve also updated by son’s resume to reflect his first grade awards.

Dylan, with dad, on stage to receive his medals and certificate. First grade top three: (from right) Dylan, Hannah Dae Commendador, Jan Clyde Presbitero.
