Invitation to babble August 3, 2005

Filed under: Blogs, Internet — engkanta @ 7:09 pm

I’ve not been keeping up with my writing practice by posting daily here. My last post was July 29, my birthday, and that was already five days ago. I’m tempted to stay I’ve been stumped with work. That’s partly true. However, there is another reason why I’ve not been meeting my obligations at work and at home.

What I’ve actually been doing is playing babble, a hybrid of boggle and scrabble. I’ve not been sleeping well because of babble: despairing over why I’m in the bottom rung of the player ranking and going crazy over words I cannot find but other players swear are there. My life has not been the same ever since I chanced upon this game in metafilter.

If you love word games and don’t mind getting addicted to one, let’s play babble.

Sun.Star blogs page July 23, 2005

(Cross-posted in Sun.Star Blog Chronicles)

After going over so many themes, I’ve finally selected one that I’m happy with for the Sun.Star Blog Chronicles, a Sun.Star Network Online section intended to cover the blogging community. Thanks to Max, Sun.Star Cebu online editor, who suggested this theme and who took care of the necessary improvements.

The Sun.Star Blog Chronicles is not even halfway ready. In the process of putting it out, other tasks came up delaying the launch of the section. I am, however, forced to hasten its completion because contributor J. Angelo Racoma already wrote about it in his blog. I guess thanks to him, too, for speeding things up.

We’re still accepting bloggers into our pool and coming up with publication rules and guidelines. Some of the submissions will see print in Sun.Star newspapers.

Other things lined up involve sections with reader-generated content and contributors from outside mainstream media.

Blog on Arroyo apology June 27, 2005

Filed under: Blogs, Internet, Journalism, Work — engkanta @ 7:50 pm

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has finally ended her defeaning silence on wiretapped tapes that allegedly showed her talking to an election official about rigging last year’s elections.

Arroyo apologized in her speech for what she said was a “lapse in judgment”.

The Sun.Star website has put up a blog for on-time coverage of her speech and reactions from administration and opposition officials. The blog was put up to complement Sun.Star’s Arroyo Watch section.

Wonderful daddy June 19, 2005

Filed under: Blogs, Family — engkanta @ 8:52 pm

Today is Father’s Day and I have no gift for my husband who has been a wonderful dad to our sons Dylan and Lennon.

What do you give someone who says no to every gift suggestion you make. Shoes? No. Shirt? No. Pants? No. (I used to throw tantrums just to force him to buy something for himself.)

What do you give someone whose idea of eating out is Shakey’s one slice pizza (but it’s a big slice and it comes with free drink) eaten standing up at SM’s covered entrance or in the taxi. Who can wear threadbare shirts and unironed pants (and really seem happy about it) to work. All these used to drive me crazy but I’ve grown enough since to accept him for what he is.

Dylan’s tales June 10, 2005

Filed under: Blogs, Children — engkanta @ 7:11 pm

Dylan is starting his own blog. Daddy created it for him. The blog will be the repository of my son’s tales and experiences.

His dad and I will be transferring entries in his journal, a class requirement, to his blog “Aliens, tsinelasay, and other tales“. I posted the first entry from a story he told me last month. I was able to record his tale in my notebook because it so happened that he told me this story while I was taking down notes from a book that I was reading for an online course.
