About a dog July 11, 2005
A dog has been terrorizing our neighborhood recently. I have been hearing horror stories about this dog from my son’s playmate but because I’ve since realized that this boy makes up stories I now take all that he tells me with a little more skepticism and a little less credulity.
Just this morning, the dog left a child’s red short pants on our doorstep. I don’t know if it was in some strange and perverted way the dog’s way of making amends or taunting me. After all, just two days before, the dog chewed on and broke the straps of my favorite pair of sandals.
It was insidious the way he did it, stealthily squeezing through the narrow gap in the iron gate and running off with the two blue and pink plastic flowers that decorated the straps of one sandal when he felt someone stirring inside the house.
Not having the slightest idea of the existence of this dog, we were puzzled as to what happened and came to the conclusion that Lennon, probably in a destructive mood, had pulled the flowers and thrown them away.
The identity of the culprit came to light when he came back and finished the job, this time chewing on the straps until they broke.
A few days before that, he ran off with one of the pair of my Cardams sandals. We did not know it then but it seemed clear now that it could only be his handiwork. That makes it two pairs by one dog. Sigh.
Sus! Kaninong aso ba yan?!? You can file a complaint with the barangay or talk to the owner of the dog. Sayang din ang sapatos!
i’ve asked around and they all say it’s not their dog. so i don’t know who to hold accountable. sigh. what i’m doing right now is make sure i don’t leave my shoes outside.
I have a .22 cal. pneumatic (pumped air) pistol at home. It won’t kill anything as big as a cat (unless you hit it squarely between the eye), but it will be a painful reminder to a stray dog not to cause trouble in the neighborhood.
