The story of Dylan and Lennon and the mom who loves them

Wonderful daddy June 19, 2005

Today is Father’s Day and I have no gift for my husband who has been a wonderful dad to our sons Dylan and Lennon.

What do you give someone who says no to every gift suggestion you make. Shoes? No. Shirt? No. Pants? No. (I used to throw tantrums just to force him to buy something for himself.)

What do you give someone whose idea of eating out is Shakey’s one slice pizza (but it’s a big slice and it comes with free drink) eaten standing up at SM’s covered entrance or in the taxi. Who can wear threadbare shirts and unironed pants (and really seem happy about it) to work. All these used to drive me crazy but I’ve grown enough since to accept him for what he is.

If you overlook his penchant for the opposite of neatness, he is really a wonderful man. He looks out for me and our children and we adore him. He bears with my tantrums (which happen regularly) and treats me like a queen.

He also helped with the transfer of my blog to this address. Actually, he did most of the work. So in lieu of a gift, I’ll just greet him Happy Father’s Day here. This entry is sure to embarrass him, too, but that is what he gets for refusing a gift.

my husband is like that, too. says no to every gift suggestion for a birthday or valentines or anniversary or fathers day or christmas. so instead of a gift last valentine’s day, i hired a singer to serenade him there in his office, in front of the staff and many colleagues as the singer arrived just after their weekly meeting. just before he started singing, the singer gave my husband a single red rose and highlighted the “corniness” of the whole thing with this line: “sir, this song and rose are from someone who loves you very much.” and then started to sing a stevie wonder song. i heard there was someone who commented in a very loud voice, “hala, si sir, gi-haranahan!” which lured everyone else to come into the room where it was all happening. everyone who saw my husband said he was soooo very red and was perspiring heavily. from embarrassment. hahaha!
