One book I’m really looking forward to read is the sixth installment of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. I managed to reserve a copy with National Bookstore over the weekend. The salesgirl said that barring any hitches, I should be able to pick up my “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” on July 16. I can’t wait.

I remembered picking a fight with someone in the Sun.Star discussion forum over the Harry Potter books. I started a thread there for Harry Potter fans and there was this girl who claimed that Harry’s muggle aunt, her name’s Petunia, was a witch and it said so in one of the books. I immediately corrected her and that started the most intense argument the discussion board ever saw. My friends were cheering me on and her friends were doing the same on her side.

(Even though I administered that forum then, I participated in the discussions as an ordinary poster by using another handle.)

Seeing how futile it all was, I immediately changed my approach and asked her to prove that it really said in any of the Harry Potter books that Petunia was a witch. Imagine my surprise when she copied and pasted three pages worth of fan fiction.

That did it for me. I made fun of her and said something to the effect that if the situation was not so damned funny, I’d be crying. I pointed out of course that the trash she posted was not JK Rowling’s work but fan fiction and any Harry Potter fanatic worth her salt would know that immediately.

Okay, so maybe I overdid it a little. I could have been a little kinder but she was such a know-it-all, I immediately felt this need to put her in her place. We’ve been enemies ever since and I sort of regretted that.
